Gabi Sklar Is Coming Into Her Own with a New Era of Music and Millions of Followers (Exclusive)

Gabi Sklar has been booked and busy since we first met her in 2017.

The now 23-year-old New York native is stepping into her own when it comes to artistry thanks to an incredible vocals, sophisticated swagger and cheeky TikTok covers with the best parts coming from what she says “happy accidents.”

“I think a lot has changed in my career because I’ve changed a lot as a person and in my artistry,” Gabi tells Celeb Secrets reporter Juliet Schroder in an exclusive interview. “A lot of the best parts of my career have been happy accidents. When COVID happened, I joined TikTok and posted a video that ended up doing something and I’ve been posting almost every day since. I think through that — that’s really how this new era of music has started for me in this new chapter, which almost feels like a chapter one with everything prior being the preface to where I am now.”

Since joining the platform almost three years ago, Gabi has captured the hearts of millions who ultimately demanded for original music. Giving the fans what they truly want, the star-in-the-making teamed up with Grammy Award winning and multi-platinum producer Tommy Brown at Champagne Therapy Music Group to help create songs that showcase her true talent.

“With releasing my original stuff, it has been very nerve-wracking, especially the first single because transitioning from covers to originals, you just really never know if people are going to love the originals the same way that they love the covers. And on top of that, you pour so much of yourself as an artist into your music — whether it’s personal or a fabrication of a story — and it’s definitely scary,” Gabi shares. “I’m just really grateful for all of the support because so far it has been less difficult and now I’m just excited to release my new single ‘Good Kisser.'”

Last month, Gabi put her latest track “Good Kisser” out on music streaming platforms, and to no surprise, she received an overwhelming response of incredible feedback. The sultry pop anthem is all about that push-and-pull of intuition versus temptation, making it not only a good song but a relatable one.

Of the writing and recording process, Sklar tells Celeb Secrets that “Good Kisser” was one that “just pieced itself together.”

“I worked on it with Anton and Isabella and Casey Smith. I think had been writing three separate songs that day and nothing was really clicking, and [Casey] was like, ‘what if we just write a song like you’re a bad friend and me like cutting people off just in intrusive thoughts.’ I was like, ‘but a real good kisser’ — and that’s literally the hook. It was easy as that.”

And today (June 15), fans are able to see “Good Kisser” come to life with a glamorous music video that allowed Gabi to step outside of herself to play various characters from the 1960s.

Directed by Justin Thorne (House of Giuseppe), Sklar says that getting out of her comfort zone was definitely her favorite part about filming the fun visual, as well as experimenting different vignettes, personas and aesthetics inspired by the decade.

“Good Kisser” is only a taste of what’s to come from Gabi this year, as she says that it’s “the start to a story that can go many different ways.”
